Buryan is a small country town with its railway station, situated close to the centre of the town, at the end of a 4 mile branch line from Queensbridge Junction. The line benefits from a frequent daily train service to & from the junction station, from where direct connections to London can be made. It also enjoys regular freight services which are handled in its small goods yard.
Buryan is not based on any particular location or station, it could be anywhere on the British Railways network in the period of the late 1950s/early 1960s, when the railways were predominately steam operated, and represents what can best be described as a typical branch line terminus.
However, for operational purposes, it has been decided that Buryan is an ex-GWR branch line and located in any one of the three most south western counties of England, namely Somerset, Devon or Cornwall.
Generally, on the layout you will find a 'hint' as to which one of these three counties Buryan is 'set', but its location could well change during the course of an exhibition!
